Time to Review My Bucket List

Some may suggest it is morbid to make a bucket list, thinking of things to do before you die. Make no mistake, I do not plan on keeling over the day after I check off my last item, in fact, my list is continually evolving and changing as I age. I imagine one day, sitting around the nursing home, my list may simply include staying awake while watching TV, or walking to the dining room unaccompanied. I hope I will always have things I want to do because motivation is invigorating and setting goals is motivating.

I have had a bucket list for a long time. It wasn’t formal, I just knew I wanted to do certain things. a few years ago I made a formal list.

I like to dream, I like to plan. I am afraid of wasting my years living a humdrum existence, so I get involved, I volunteer and want to be a better person. Not for others, but simply for me, for my satisfaction.  I find it helps me to know my inner self, my true desires. I have become more aware of who I am. We all have many roles we play, between work and home, with family and friends, the community, socially, at church, we wear many hats and we have expectations placed upon us by others. A bucket list is not about expectations, it is about desires.

I think a bucket list reflects who you are and what is important to you. There are a lot of fun things and adventurous things on my list and I hope some things that will make me grow as a person.

If you do not yet have your dreams listed, I hope this will inspire you.

  2. Maggie, so much of your post (indeed, *many* of your posts) resonated with me. I, too, am ‘afraid’ of not taking full advantage of my life, of squandering time. For me, though, the idea of a bucket list was too big – the things on the list seemed too lofty, almost unattainable. So I instead created a “101 in 1001” list (101 things to do in 1001 days) – and am finding that I am even more engaged in day-to-day life than I was before as a result of the list. It’s pretty amazing. (And like you, I keep another running list; I think when this first batch of 101 is done, I’ll likely do another.) 🙂 Here’s my current list: http://smilekiddo.wordpress.com/101-in-1001/

  3. I love your list. keep it u p

  4. It`s a Great List my friend 🙂

  5. Quite a few things on your bucket list that I would love to do. I hope you can cross some off in the near future.

  6. Great list. We have also a dream of to “Go to the Olympics”. Maybe someday!

  7. Your list is grand Maggie…especially like “sleeping in a yurt, visit all 50 states and dip toe in Arctic Ocean.” Brrr, I love it! 🙂

  8. Maybe I should just be happy with typing a sentence correctly! I haven’t made a bucket list. No ‘done’.

  9. I haven’t done made a bucket list Maggie. It is an interesting thought. I will be thinking today about this. My list would be short and simple I think 🙂 I can’t decide if I am just contented or way too lazy! Congratulations on your completed items!!!

  10. You were the second person to remind me that i should make one!
Loved your bucket list especially the one about standing on the equator!

  11. What a great list and loved reading the extraordinary items that you have already crossed off.

  12. Wow I love your list and I’d like to do some of it as well, keep crossing things off!

  13. Your list is quite ambitious!…much more than I want to obtain…but,I love your adventurous spirit!…Isn’t it wonderful to have dreams, wants and desires…I’ve always said,”It keeps us young!”

  14. I haven’t actually written a bucket list yet but I’ve always thought that if I did the first thing on it would be a hot air balloon ride! How fun to see that at the top of your list! In fact, our lists would be similar in many ways. I’ve done several of the things that are still on your list while you’ve done quite a few things that I haven’t accomplished yet. Good luck in completing lots more of your dreams!

  15. You’ve crossed off some pretty impressive things on your list!
Looks like you’re going to be pretty busy.

  16. That’s so wierd, I just wrote about a Bucket List and then I find your blog…I wrote mine about four years ago. I’ve scratched quite a bit off it already, so good luck with yours.
