Who ate the Spider?

It must be because the kick plate is removed from under the cupboards. We are still waiting to hear what damage the insurance covers. The flood is dried up, but the kitchen is still dismantled.

A spider crawled out of its regular “under the sink”  hiding place, silly thing.

"I am just minding my own business, taking a stroll.."

The cat has good eyesight, the poor spider managed to make it to the middle of the kitchen floor before getting whacked across the room. Struggling to its eight little legs, it limped out into the middle again. Clover, the cat, sniffed at it, pawed it, toyed with it..

"Thanks guys, for getting me a new toy.." says the cute and innocent kitty cat

I feel guilty. I should have rescued the poor scared spider. Do spiders have feelings? Can a spider taste fear? I contemplated these things as I snapped a few more photos.

The spider must be scared, Its hair is standing on end.

Suddenly, the cat went in for a closer look.

"hey little buddy.."

That was the last I saw of the spider.  I am left holding a camera and singing that old children’s song;

There was an Old Lady song

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, I don’t know why she swallowed a fly – perhaps she’ll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider, That wriggled and wiggled and tiggled inside her; She swallowed the spider to catch the fly; I don’t know why she swallowed a fly – Perhaps she’ll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird; How absurd to swallow a bird. She swallowed the bird to catch the spider, She swallowed the spider to catch the fly; I don’t know why she swallowed a fly – Perhaps she’ll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat; Fancy that  to swallow a cat! She swallowed the cat to catch the bird, She swallowed the bird to catch the spider, She swallowed the spider to catch the fly; I don’t know why she swallowed a fly – Perhaps she’ll die!

There was an old lady that swallowed a dog; What a hog, to swallow a dog; She swallowed the dog to catch the cat, She swallowed the cat to catch the bird, She swallowed the bird to catch the spider, She swallowed the spider to catch the fly; I don’t know why she swallowed a fly – Perhaps she’ll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow, I don’t know how she swallowed a cow; She swallowed the cow to catch the dog, She swallowed the dog to catch the cat, She swallowed the cat to catch the bird, She swallowed the bird to catch the spider, She swallowed the spider to catch the fly; I don’t know why she swallowed a fly – Perhaps she’ll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse… She’s dead, of course!

She should have gone straight to the cat.

When The Birds and The Bees Meet

I felt him looking at me. He was staring from the roof of the bird feeder. Mr Yellow Jacket rubbed his hands together, watching my approach.  Was he planning an attack?

"Hey, gang, wake up, someone is heading this way. She looks tasty"

All winter, the Yellow Jackets have laid in wait, dormant, hiding inside the log cabin that sits on the bird feeder. We did not realize they had built a home there.

"I am coming Buzz, I am ready to attack cause I am hungry It has been a long winter."

My husband had to take down the log house and remove the nest. The Yellow Jackets continue to gather around the empty feeder. I have a feeling they will be building another home inside the house.

The hive, but no honey. Just our luck, we get the Yellow Jackets. Why don't the Honey Bees built a hive on our property.

There was a cluster of bees inside the nest.

We enjoy feeding the birds and watching them at the feeder. I wonder if birds will eat the bees? I hope so.

The Birdhouse is back on the post. We will keep watching for further developments.

Three, Two, One, Blast into Spring

Spring blasted into my world today, spun around and left summer in its wake. Last weekend there was ice on the lake here in southern Ontario. Today the temperature reached 26 C.  (26 ºC = 78.8 ºF for anyone in the USA )

Early spring crocuses are in bloom. I am not sure how this crazy weather will affect my garden this year. I will take it day by day.

I took a few photos with a macro lens today to celebrate whatever season this is.

One... Blast into spring.

Remembering summer flowers amd unidentified bugs

It is still winter. We are expecting a wind storm tonight, with lots of rain. I hope it washes away the snow, but I would rather the sun do that. I wanted to post a few flowers to put me in the mood for better days, for the warm sunny summer days. I long for my garden to come to life. I want to get outside, to sit on the deck with the warmth of the sun kissing my face. I hope these few photos will touch your heart or warm you up in some way.

The busy bee, caught on a cosmos flower

I took this photo in Alaska of an unknown red bug on an Unidentified flower. Can anyone help me identify what either the bug or the flower is?

There were clumps of these silken seeds along the Dempster Highway in the North West Territories. They glistened in the sun.

A Closer Look through the Lens

I have been having fun using my macro lens to photograph a variety of sticks. The colours, the shapes and the unique twists in the sticks I found is amazing.
Taking a close look at things has become a passion. It is easy to overlook the individual branch when looking at the beauty of a tree. I invite you to look closer.
